A Street Library discussion was started with our WhatsApp group. Should we jump into the next chapter of community connection and care with a Street Library? Absolutely!
With a love of reading and total support for sharing our books (a much more responsible way to consume than purchasing new) - we were off!
Leroy's Library - Leading the way
One of our community members skilfully re-purposed an old cabinet and some beautiful chairs to create 'Leroy's Library'. The books come from many households within the street - and now sit within the library, waiting to share their adventures with the new visitors to their pages.
Leroy is the noisiest (and cutest) librarian around. His bark welcomes every visitor as they peruse the books or relax amongst the bush setting for a read.
NOTE: Your council may have rules around installing a Street Library and/or seating. Please get in touch with them and confirm your library's position. Find your council.
Connecting over comments
Within the library is a sign-in book, used for people to leave their feedback and thoughts to help others with future book choices.
It's loads of fun reading reviews and choosing books based on other peoples' comments - a great way to connect.

Building your Street Library
Everyone in the street is on-board. You have the books but uh-oh... Nothing to put them in!!
Don't fret. If no one in the street has an old cupboard that could be converted, there are places where you can buy your library - ready to assemble and paint.
Your OneStreet group may want to help a street by providing a Street Library.
The 'Street Library' website has a program where you can 'Pay it Forward' by purchasing a Street Library that is then sent to a Street from their list.
Find out more about the program by clicking the link below.
